Dementia Support Group

Dementia is a neurodegenerative disorder in which there is deterioration in the cognitive functions to such an extent that it affects functioning on a daily basis. It is progressive in nature and affects memory, thinking, orientation, comprehension, learning capacity, language, and judgment. Samvedna Senior Care Foundation helps families understand these challenges and helps them manage care in the best possible way. The support group facilitates screening of elderly, physician reviews, care management education and helps connect families to institutions providing affordable care.

We conduct regular Dementia Support group meetings for caregivers to share their challenges and learn from experiences of other group members. The meetings are chaired by our experts, a typical support group meeting includes discussion on challenging behaviours faced by the caregivers, tips for care management, latest research in dementia. The session is interactive and participants are encouraged to ask questions and seek answers from the group and our experts in a non-judgemental and very congenial environment.

Each support group meeting last for two hours and is held on a non-working day to benefit the working care givers.

Thank you to Samvedna for organising such a beautiful program on dementia this was very useful for us; how to look after dementia patients and how to be better caregivers and these tips we never heard before. All the volunteers who had come were very good and helpful. Thank you so much and I am looking forward to more of these programs.

My experience today was very good and experts who were talking about Parkinson’s, dementia, incomprehension and disorientation, I think they are really good, very well informed, they are experts. Actually, for a long time I was trying to find a place like this where I can meet people who are going through the same experience as myself and at the same time I can see people who are experts in this area, so in a way it’s a very good initiative. I will continue my association with this place and therefore can make my mother’s life (patient) much better... I will be happy to come again and would love to contribute in any possible way.

I have come all the way from Ghaziabad to attend this session, it’s one of the most wonderful experiences that I have ever had because I have a patient at home (mother in law). There were lots of queries related to dementia earlier which were unanswered but this session gave me an insight into how to take care of patient of dementia and also taking care of caregiver is extremely important.
